This Portrait was commissioned by someone I have known since she was very young. The client set some challenges for me as she wanted to portray her life experiences through photographic images in the work. This is how the work became a true mixed media piece. I printed all the images on Archival Velvet Fine Art Rag and attached them to the work surface.
I came up with the idea of the wind catching the photographs and casting them into the air, with the most recent and symbolic images at the top. The idea of standing on a windy mountain top is portrayed through her fly away hair, mountain range and clouds in the background. When she saw the work, Claire was overwhelmed and she said it reminded her of a special spot her family used to go when she was a child. It’s amazing what can happen while making a piece as I had no idea about the spot they went to.
