This is a commission that I have just completed as a 70th Birthday present for a Client’s mother – the fountain will soon be making its way to the South West of the UK!
I really enjoyed making this and it’s my first fountain. The beauty and life of copper never ceases to astound me. After much research I finally found a bowl which would suit my purposes for the work and I ordered it from the states. It is hand beaten and made in Mexico. The artisans work could not go uncelebrated here, hence why I highlighted the hammer marks.
One of the main characteristics I was hoping this work would exude was a tranquil sound and to my delight the copper shone once again, this time as a perfect sounding board for the water. After some experimentation with water plants of different shapes I came up with the basic heart shape which seems to complement the form of the feature leaves.
All in all I hope Joy really enjoys her “Fountain of Joy”.
