This sculpture was commissioned by St Margaret Mary’s Secondary College in Townsville.  The piece has been designed to reflect the theme of Compassion embodied in the Parable of the Good Samaritan. We can all benefit from showing tenderness to someone in need, whilst keeping in mind that sometimes when people show it the least they need it the most.

Nestled in the embrace of the larger figure, lies the smaller one, resting in a place of protection, nurture and safety.  The elegant curves of the form encircle one another in harmony, creating a sense of peace, comfort and tranquillity.

Marble reflects purity and it’s a classic medium for ecclesiastical sculpture.  It is intended that this work will last generations, leaving a visual legacy for both present and future students to embrace.

The sculpture represents two students, one showing sensitivity to the other.   Though minimal in design there is always more to see, from different angles, in different lights and as your life and circumstances evolve.
