This artwork pays tribute to the Men and Women of The Rocky Creek War Hospital, in Far North Queensland. This facility was the largest Military hospital in Australia and the southern hemisphere during the Second World War.

This sculpture features “Theatres” from 3 perspectives.

The outer border of the Corten element represents the roof support structure of the Igloo Entertainment theatre constructed to support the mental health of soldiers.

The stainless steel element represents the care and healing provided by the hospital theatres and facility.

Whilst the work as a whole highlights the support, care and healing provided by the facility for the broader South East Asian/Pacific Theatre of War

This Artwork is very special to me because I grew up around this particular area with my school bus passing the Entertainment Igloo and the broader site, every day.  It was rewarding to produce something for my local area which contributes to highlighting an important part of the history built here.

This work was commissioned by Tableland Regional Council
